December Reflections
Journal prompts for the end of the year.
We’ve officially made it to the last month of the year, our dear friend December. There’s a bittersweetness about this time of year when time seems to move extra fast towards the holidays. I feel like I’m barely able to catch my breath with the hundreds of tasks that are building up in my brain in preparation. But, this year, instead of going full steam ahead, I’m deciding to be intentional about how I want to end this year.
One of the things I’m being intentional about is reflection. I tend to leave my reflections to the new year, but I think starting in December might be a better idea. I’m hoping that it will be helpful for entering into January with a fresh slate and clarity around how I want to move forward and what I’m taking into the new year and what I’m leaving behind.
One thing that’s been consistent and helpful in reflecting is sitting down with my journal in the morning. Typically, I don’t really utilize journaling prompts because I like to just start writing based off of what’s on my mind that day. However, with my goal of being more intentional and mindful during this month, I’ve decided to create some journal prompts to help me get through the month.
As of this morning, I’ve written 10 prompts focused around reflecting on the past year. Some are a little more surface level and some will probably require some time to sit with. My goal is to start with these prompts to get my brain actively thinking about what has impacted me over the year and what will be important for me in 2026. Then, once I’ve completed these prompts, I plan on writing about 5 more that will be fully focused on looking forward and developing concrete goals for myself.
So, without further ado, here are my 10 journal prompts that I’ll be working through in December!
Reflect on a habit (or a few) that you’ve developed this year. How has it impacted you and your wellbeing?
Reflect on you you’ve seen yourself this year. Has your self-image evolved at all from past years?
Reflect on your relationships with others. How have they grown (or diminished)? Have you deepened old connections or made new ones?
Reflect on the little things. What are some small moments that made a big impact this year?
Reflect on something that you’re proud of from this year. Where did your efforts pay off?
Reflect on something that was hard for you this year. What made it difficult for you and how would you change your strategy/mindset in the future?
Reflect on something beautiful that you witnessed this year. How did it change you?
Reflect on your physical state this past year. How did you take care of your body/ where did you neglect it?
Reflect on something you learned this year. How has this new knowledge impacted you?
Reflect on your spiritual wellbeing this year. How have you been connected or disconnected with your higher self?
I hope these reflections are helpful for you in some way and I’d love to hear your thoughts/if you end up using any of them!
love,
sarah

We are so aligned! I sat down yesterday and wrote about the different life lessons 2025 gifted me. I plan to turn it into a blog post soon!
I feel super reflective this time of year and I like reviewing the year in December rather than January. (Probably because everything feels more lovely in December anyway, and if there’s any way I’ve fallen short I can reassure myself there’s still time.) Wishing you a wonderful December, friend ❤️❤️❤️
